The general thinking nowadays is to turn to a quick fix of energy boost. We advocate making your own energy drink at home as it is cheaper, healthier, and you can have control over the ingredients.

 Energy Drinks Ingredients

Most energy drinks give their kick from the following energy boosting ingredients:

  • Caffeine: available in coffee, black tea, green tea, ginseng, gingko, and green coffee extract
  • Sugar: Honey, brown sugar, Stevia
  • Vitamin B: available in health food stores in form of drops or pills
  • Fruit Juice: banana, orange, and berries are loaded with vitamin C, potassium and anti-oxidants
  • Sparkling water: also called fizzy water, carbonated water, and seltzer; helps with indigestion, constipation, and lowers cholesterol
  • Other healthy ingredients such as whey protein, coconut water, some types of algae

DIY Energy Drink/ Grizzly Bears

Yields 5 servings

Juice of 2 lemons, 3 tbs honey, 4 cups of sparkling water, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp baking soda

Mix well then serve chilled

Tip: you can add half glass of the chilled mixture to half a glass of fresh juice of your choice

Banana Wheatgrass Smoothie

Wheatgrass is rich source of protein, magnesium, vitamin B complex, and potassium. Some people prefer to grow their own wheatgrass at home. You can buy wheatgrass powder from health food stores

Ingredients:

3 large ripe bananas, 2 cups cold sparkling water, 1 tablespoon wheat grass powder, 1 tsp honey

Blend all ingredients in your kitchen blender until it becomes slushy.

Spirulinacoco Energy Drink

Spirulina is an algae used as a dietary supplement because it contains 60% protein and all essential amino acids. Spirulina is also rich with minerals essential for healthy diet. Coconut water is high in potassium content and rich with antioxidants linked to many health benefits.

Yield 2 servings

2 cups of coconut water, ½ teaspoon spirulina powder, ½ cup crushed ice

Mix well and drink chilled.

Green Tea Energy Drink

Green tea has is rich with antioxidants and help to boost metabolism. Vitamin B12 is linked to boost in energy effect

Ingredients

4 cups of cooled seeped green tea, 2 cups of peach juice or strawberries juice, 1 cup of sparkling water, Llquid vitamin B12 (number of drops depends on recommended daily intake)

Blend together and serve chilled

Green Cuffruitty

Yields 2 servings

½ teaspoon green coffee beans extract powder, 2 cups of juice

Mix well and chill before serving

Strawberries Energy Drink

1/2 cup frozen strawberries, 2 tbsp. honey, ½ scoop whey protein powder, 2 chunks of pineapples, ½ lemon juice, ½ cup crushed ice

Place strawberries, honey, pineapples, whey protein and lemon juice in blender and  blend on high speed until fruit is pureed. Add crushed ice and serve.

Flax Orange Smoothie

Oranges are good sources of vitamin C,Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, potassium, magnesium and foliate. Flax seed powder is high in omega 3 fatty acid and abundance of micro-nutrients. It may reduce cholesterol and help regulate sugar levels in blood.

Ingredients:

Juice of 3 sweet oranges, 2 tablespoons of  flax seed powder, crushed ice

Mix together and serve immediately
